To Soar Like a Bird – A Short Story   It was a cool spring day. The wind blew briskly around the trunk of the large maple tree, deep in an ancient forest.  The tree felt happy.  It had a full head of leaves and a strong wooden body.  It was warm in the winter, and cool in the summer, but it began to feel empty.   Standing in the same spot for many centuries it began to feel the yearning to move like the wind, and fly like the birds.  To soar through the sky would be the greatest fancy for this static being.  Only in dreams could it hope to become a heron, majestically floating through the waves that are the wind itself.  Only in its
